March Forward!
The month of March felt like a really inspirational and celebratory month for us!
To mark International Women’s Day we spotlighted our all-female High Chai menu…
Our seasonal macaroons are from local social enterprise business Miss Macaroon. Founder Rosie Ginday was recently awarded an MBE for her work in providing training and jobs for long term unemployed people.
Our award winning almond and pistachio nankhatai are made by Chins Kitchen.
Founder and baker Chintal Kakaya from London was awarded a Gold Star at the Guild of Fine Food Great Taste Awards.
Our High Chai (afternoon tea) menu also raises money for The Asian Circle, who are a collective of British Asian women from diverse backgrounds volunteering their time and skills to support disadvantaged women in South Asia. The charity is part of ‘The Circle’ founded by singer and philanthropist Annie Lennox OBE.
On International Women’s Day itself, we received a phonecall from the wonderful Shani Dhanda. Shani is an award-winning international event manager, disability role model and campaigner and also the founder of Asian Woman Festival. She is living with a rare genetic condition but shares her journey and life lessons to help inspire and motivate others. She founded the festival as she felt there wasn’t an event where like-minded Asian women could network, share their experiences, celebrate their achievements and feel empowered!
Shani asked us if we could provide complimentary masala chai at the festival alongside some of our yummy snacks! She was keen for us to be there as she too wanted to support local women-led businesses. We’re so glad to have taken Shani up on the offer! We had a brilliant day – with queues and queues of festival-goers drinking Zindiya’s chai. As they say “with a cup of tea in your hand – anything is possible!” – And it definitely felt that way meeting and chatting to so many inspirational ladies.
The next day was Mother’s Day – and again – the restaurant was full of families celebrating the women in their life!
We definitely ended the month on a high when we saw the recipe for our signature dessert ‘Chocolate Gol Gappe’ feature in Daily Mail's Weekend Magazine!
